The wives and children of President Jomo Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta has seven other siblings contrary to many people's knowledge. His father, who was the first President of Kenya, was married to four wives with whom he had a total of 8 children.
In retrospect, many Kenyans were introduced to Uhuru Kenyatta in 2002 when former president Daniel Arap Moi endorsed him to succeed him to run for president on Kenya African National Union's (KANU) ticket.
President Moi's reign was long enough (24 years) to draw Kenyans attentions from the "First Family" of Founding Father- President Jomo Kenyatta.
First Wife and Children of Kenyatta
The first wife to President Jomo Kenyatta, Grace Wahu was married in 1919 and on 20 November 1922, the very first child of Mzee Jomo was born. Peter Mugai was born. Before his death in 1979, Peter Muigai served as an Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Peter had a sister, with the same mother, named Margaret Kenyatta who was born in 1929. She once served as the Mayor of Nairobi (1970–76) and then as Kenya's Ambassador to the United Nations (1976–86). She died in 2017. Their mother Grace Wahu died in 2007.
Second wife
Edna Clarke was the second wife of President Kenyatta, the two married on May 11, 1942, in Storrington in Sussex, England where Kenyatta was working as a farm laborer. Ms. Clarke bore the President one child- Peter Magana Kenyatta on August 11, 1944.
Kenyatta returned to Kenya in in 1946 leaving his wife in England who died at 86 in 1995. His son Magana worked as a producer with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) until he retired. He is currently living in London.
Third wife
Immediately after his return from England in 1946, Kenyatta married his third wife Grace Wanjiku who together with Mbiyu Koinange were children of Senior Chief Koinange. Wanjiku died in 1951 while giving birth to their daughter Jane Wambui who survived.
Fourth wife
The fourth wife of President Kenyatta is key to both his presidency and life. She marks the apex of the President's married life and the presidency.
She is the one who was addressed as the "First Lady" for she appeared publicly with him in many functions. She is the one who lived with Kenyatta until his death in 1978. Ngina Kenyatta (Alias Mama Ngina) is her name.
She bore Christine Wambui Kenyatta in 1953 followed by Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta , Anna Nyokabi Muthama Kenyatta in May 1963, and finally Muhoho Kenyatta in 1965.
